Policy Overview

Modern slavery is a serious and often hidden crime that encompasses slavery, servitude, human trafficking, and forced labour. At BDM Construction, we have a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery and are fully committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all aspects of our business.

We understand the importance of safeguarding human rights across every part of our operations and supply chain. That’s why we are dedicated to implementing and maintaining effective systems and controls to prevent any form of modern slavery or exploitation. Through transparency, vigilance, and collaboration with our partners, we strive to ensure that our working practices, and those of our supply chain, are fair, safe, and respectful of human dignity.

POLICY AND PRINCIPLES

Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

At BDM Construction, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics and transparency in every aspect of our operations. As part of this commitment, we have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking. We recognise the inherent risks within the construction industry and take proactive steps to prevent exploitation both within our direct operations and across our wider supply chain.

This statement is made in accordance with Section 54, Part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out our approach for identifying, mitigating, and eradicating modern slavery in all its forms. We are responsible for the implementation, ongoing review, and effectiveness of this statement and our associated procedures.

Our Business

BDM Construction Ltd operates as a contractor delivering paving, groundwork, and construction services across the South of England. Due to the project-based nature of our work, a portion of our workforce is sourced from previous projects or through employment agencies.

We are committed to providing a safe, lawful, and regulated working environment for everyone engaged on our sites—whether directly employed or working through third parties. All workers receive at least the National Minimum Wageor National Living Wage as appropriate. To further safeguard against exploitation, we have implemented enhanced identity and right-to-work checks for all individuals operating on our projects, going beyond statutory requirements.

Supply Chains

Our supply chain includes clients, subcontractors, and labour suppliers. We maintain detailed Terms of Business with all subcontractors and expect them to promote and uphold the same high standards that we apply to ourselves. BDM Construction will never knowingly enter into a business relationship with any organisation involved in modern slavery or human trafficking.

We encourage all individuals, whether employees, subcontractors, or other stakeholders, to report any concerns or suspicions of unethical or exploitative practices. All reports are taken seriously, investigated sensitively and discreetly, and dealt with appropriately without bias.

Our Commitments for 2024/25

During the 2024/25 financial year, we will strengthen our modern slavery prevention measures through the following actions:

  • Appointing a Modern Slavery Lead within the company to champion awareness and compliance.

  • Implementing mandatory right-to-work checks as part of all on-site worker inductions.

  • Monitoring industry developments to stay alert to emerging risks and updating our procedures accordingly.

  • Requiring labour suppliers to formally confirm their compliance with anti-slavery policies.

  • Training site managers to recognise indicators of modern slavery and take appropriate action.

  • Raising awareness among workers by:

    • Sharing modern slavery awareness resources.

    • Displaying posters and materials on site to help potential victims seek support or report abuse.

We remain committed to continuous improvement and collaboration across the industry to help eliminate modern slavery and promote fair, safe, and respectful working conditions for all.
